On May 10, 1996, fourteen members of the United States Armed Forces perished when an AH-1 Cobra helicopter collided mid-air with a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter. This tragedy took place off of Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, during Exercise Purple Star, a combined task force endeavor with the United States and United Kingdom.
